In a shared building a shower problem rarely stays in your own bathroom, which changes how urgently it should be dealt with.
Leaks reach the home below
A failed shower pan or a leaking drain connection in a villa shows up downstairs first, often reported by a neighbour before you notice anything. Working out whether it is the pan, the drain or grout letting water past matters before anything is opened.
You may not need to lose the tile
Many valve repairs are reached through the existing trim plate or a small opening in the wall behind. Before agreeing to a quote that involves removing tile, it is entirely reasonable to ask whether the valve can be reached from behind.
Original villa bathrooms
Bathrooms from the seventies and eighties often have tile that is no longer made. Working around it is slower and nearly always the right call.
Outdoor showers
Sun, salt and sand all summer, then unused all winter. Valves seize and heads block. Draining the line before a freeze prevents the most common burst we see on the island.
