Drain problems here divide the same way everything else does — by whether the house predates Hugo.
Newer neighbourhoods
Park West, Carolina Park and Rivertowne have PVC under twenty-five years old. Blockages are almost always introduced rather than structural: grease, wipes marketed as flushable, or construction debris left in the line during the original build. That last one genuinely surprises people in newer houses.
Old Village and mature streets
Older cast iron scales internally and clay laterals let roots in at the joints. Mount Pleasant has substantial live oaks along its older streets, and those root systems find any joint that weeps. Cabling clears it for a season; lining removes the joints they enter through.
Large houses, longer runs
Big floorplans mean long drain runs with more fittings and shallower falls than a compact house. That makes them more prone to collecting solids over time, and it is why some newer homes here develop recurring kitchen line problems despite modern pipe.
Camera before you commit
If a drain has backed up more than once, footage tells you whether you are cleaning a pipe or postponing a replacement.
