If you have been quoted for a sewer replacement that involves digging a long trench across your property, it is worth asking whether the pipe can be lined instead.
Long runs make digging expensive
Properties here often sit well back from the road, so the line from house to connection can be very long. Trenching that means disturbing driveways, gardens, mature trees and sometimes several hundred feet of ground. Lining creates a new pipe inside the existing one through access points that are already there.
Trees people would rather keep
Johns Island has some remarkable old oaks, and their roots spread much further than the canopy suggests. Digging near them risks the tree as well as the budget. Lining avoids that entirely.
Who probably does not need it
If your home is in one of the newer developments, the pipe is modern PVC and not old enough to be failing. A blockage there is something to clean out. If lining has been suggested for a house that new, ask to see the camera footage before you agree to anything.
When it cannot be done
If a pipe has collapsed, or sagged so badly that it holds water, there is nothing sound left to line. We would rather explain that after looking than begin something that will not work.
