Whether your waste goes to a sewer or a septic tank makes a real difference to what goes wrong and who fixes it, and on Johns Island we see plenty of both.
If you are on septic
Slow drains throughout the house, gurgling, or a patch of grass that is suddenly greener than the rest usually point at the tank or the drain field rather than the pipe inside your home. We handle the line from the house to the tank and can tell you clearly when what you actually need is a septic contractor — rather than charging you to find that out.
If you are on the sewer
Newer developments here are connected to the municipal system. The line from your house to the connection is yours to maintain, and the usual problems are roots at the joints on older sections and sagging where ground has settled.
The soil here does not help
Low ground, a high water table and soft soil mean pipes shift more than they would elsewhere. That is why sections sag and hold water, and it is why we look with a camera before quoting rather than guessing.
Ask to see the footage
Roots, a sagging section, a crack and a collapse cost very different amounts to put right. You should be able to see what you are paying to fix.
