Given what property costs on this island, an hour with a camera is a very small piece of diligence.
Before you buy
A standard home inspection does not include the sewer line. On an older island property that line may be original and quietly silting up with sand carried in through cracked joints. On a villa purchase it is also worth understanding where your responsibility ends and the association’s begins.
It settles arguments in multi-unit buildings
When a blockage affects several units, footage shows exactly where the problem is and therefore who is responsible for it. That is far more useful than opinions, and we are happy to provide it to a management company.
What we look for here
Sand and silt collecting in low spots, cracked joints letting groundwater in, loss of fall, and grease build-up in shared stacks. Those are the characteristic island findings.
What we will show you
- What the pipe is made of and roughly its age
- Sand and silt build-up, and where
- Cracked or separated joints
- Low spots holding water
- Whether it can be lined or needs replacing
- Where the line runs, marked at the surface
