Taps on the island wear faster than they do inland, and the reason is in the air.
Salt gets everywhere
Even indoors, the salt content in the air on a barrier island works on chrome, brass and the internals of taps. Cartridges seize, finishes pit and fittings corrode sooner than the manufacturer intended. Replacing a cartridge usually restores a tap completely.
Rental turnover
Taps in a holiday let get used hard by people who are not being careful with them. Handles get forced, aerators get knocked. Most of it is inexpensive to put right, and worth doing between seasons rather than during one.
Poor pressure at one tap
Nearly always the small screen in the end of the spout, and here it is often salt deposits as much as scale. Unscrew it, soak it in vinegar overnight, refit it.
Outside taps need better parts
Hose bibs and outdoor shower taps fail here far more often than indoor ones. Fitting something specified for coastal use costs a little more and lasts several times longer, and we would rather do that than come back next year.
