Drains here deal with two things they were never really designed for — sand, and a great many guests.
Sand builds up quietly
Every shower and every sink in a beach house takes in sand over a season. It is heavy, so it settles in traps and low spots rather than washing through, and it accumulates until a drain slows right down. A cable will punch through it; jetting actually removes it.
Rentals and guests
Holiday guests do not know your plumbing and are not thinking about it. Wipes, cooking grease and sandy towels rinsed in a shower all end up in lines that were fine when it was just you. For managed properties we can clear drains between bookings, which is far better than a blockage in the middle of someone’s week.
Older cottages
Some of the original beach cottages still have older drain pipe that has narrowed with age. On those the camera is worth using first, because there is a difference between a drain that needs cleaning and pipe that needs replacing.
Outdoor shower drains
These take the worst of the sand and are the most commonly neglected drain on the property. Worth including when anything else is being cleared.
