Sewer problems here are uncommon and, when they do happen, usually smaller than people fear.
Modern pipe, different problems
Daniel Island laterals are PVC with sealed joints, so the two classic causes of sewer failure elsewhere — roots getting into clay joints and cast iron corroding — simply do not apply. What can happen is ground settling under a section so it sags and holds water, or damage from someone digging.
Made ground settles
Much of the island was developed on filled and graded land. Fill compacts over years, and a lateral running through it can develop a low spot. That is a repair to one section rather than a whole line, and it is by far the most common sewer issue we see here.
Camera first, always
Because the pipe is sound, a camera usually shows exactly one identifiable problem in one place. That means a targeted repair rather than an expensive replacement, and it is why we never quote sewer work without looking.
Ask to see the footage
If anyone has proposed major sewer work on a house this age, that is worth questioning. You should be able to see the problem you are paying to solve.
