On well water, what you replace a heater with should account for the water going into it.
Treat the water before fitting tankless
Tankless units are efficient but far less forgiving of iron and hardness than a tank. On untreated well water they scale up and disappoint people. We would rather fit a conventional tank and a proper filter than sell you the more expensive option and watch it struggle.
Sizing on a well
Your hot water is limited by what the pump can deliver as much as by the tank. On a system that is already working hard, a very large heater does not solve a supply problem — it just gives you more lukewarm water. Sometimes the honest answer is that the pump or pressure tank needs attention first.
Where it sits
Heaters in unheated outbuildings or under raised homes need freeze protection as part of the installation, not as an afterthought.
