Out here an emergency is a different situation from one in town, and being straight with you about that is more useful than promising the impossible.
We will tell you honestly how long we will be
Awendaw is a genuine drive from us, up Highway 17 past Mount Pleasant. We would rather give you a realistic time and talk you through what to do meanwhile than say we are close by. Most of what limits the damage happens before we arrive anyway.
If you are on a well, no power means no water
This catches people out every storm season. A well pump runs on electricity, so when the power goes, so does your water — taps, toilets, everything. It is not a plumbing fault and no plumber can fix it while the power is off. Keeping drinking water put by, and knowing your generator can run the pump, is the practical answer out here.
Know how to shut it off
On a well there is no meter at the road to close. You switch the pump off at the breaker and close the valve at the pressure tank. Please find both on a calm afternoon rather than in the dark.
We come out for
- No water at all, on a well or a mains supply
- Burst and leaking pipes
- Pump and pressure tank failures
- Sewage or septic backing up indoors
- Water heaters leaking or failing
- Gas and propane smells, which we treat as immediate
